Planning for 2022

by | Dec 2, 2021 | Business, Social Media

Tis the season! Social media managers and business owners everywhere are refilling their coffee mugs and looking at their calendars while trying to get a lay of the land.  They are looking back at what worked this year and trying to see the future with a crystal ball in order to plan next year. Not an easy task. We have some tips to make things a little simpler!

What worked?

One simple step is to check your IG insights – what performed well? What got the most shares, the most comments, the most engagement? What do those posts have in common? Obviously that is resonating with your audience, so use it going forward.

What didn’t?

On that note, what flopped? Was it the time of day you posted, hashtags that didn’t work for you, or content that didn’t land with your audience? Consider these while planning ahead (and don’t worry, we all have posts that flop!)

What’s trending?

Who knew a year ago how big TikTok would be? Or Insta Reels? Trying to stay ahead of this can be a lot of work, but paying attention to what’s trending around you can keep you at the top of mind for your audience. However – don’t fake it! If dancing on a TikTok video isn’t you or your brand, it will throw your audience off to see you doing something so off- brand. The good news is, if you want to keep up with this trend and it fits for you to do so, there are tons of ways to make Reels or TikTok work for you – be creative and have fun with it!

What day is it?

One fun aspect of planning your social media calendar is Holidays! Whether it’s Thanksgiving, Black Friday, National Coffee Day, or International Hug Your Pet Day, some of these days might be great for your brand to be aware of. In Social Boost Lab, this is one small aspect we help with on an ongoing basis. If you’re interested, check it out here!

What’s on the news?

Be aware of what’s going on in the world. If there was just a huge global tragedy, and you had a fun, upbeat post scheduled for that day, it might be worth considering if it’s still an appropriate post. Planning and scheduling posts ahead of time is great for time and energy saving, but don’t schedule and forget it. Make sure you’re checking in with what’s working, whats not, and make little adjustments as needed.

What do you have to prove?

Think of the messaging you are hoping to get across this year, what are your goals, who is your ideal audience? All of these will determine what direction you go with your marketing strategy, and will help keep you on point.

Rome wasn’t built in a day, and you don’t need to plan the entire year in one day. Be flexible, watch your insights, and have fun!
